Counter-assessment of expert reports

A counter-assessment is a technical procedure aimed at critically reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating a computer forensic expert report that has been previously prepared by another professional. Its purpose is to detect possible methodological or procedural errors, incorrect interpretations, or insufficiently supported conclusions that may affect the soundness of the report or the digital evidence provided.

The computer expert conducts a thorough review of the original report, analyzing various issues from multiple angles. They also verify whether the principles of integrity, authenticity, reproducibility, and chain of custody of digital evidence have been respected. Should deficiencies be detected, the expert documents them clearly and with supporting arguments, providing alternative evidence and technical grounds.

Counter-assessment is particularly valuable in judicial or administrative proceedings where contradictory reports are presented. It allows parties to obtain a second professional, independent, and well-founded opinion, which helps clarify the technical aspects of the case.

The objectivity, technical, and methodological capabilities available at Peritajes Gámez to clearly and rigorously explain the inconsistencies or accuracies of the reviewed report allow us to offer lawyers, judges, and clients a solid basis upon which to support their strategy or resolution.
